Equality and Inclusion

The University has a vision to become a beacon of excellence for Equality and Inclusion in the Higher Education sector. The Equality Policy Unit is the University’s centre for strategy, policy and guidance development on all student and staff equality and inclusion matters. They provide expert advice, support and ensure the statutory equality obligations are met.

When delivering a change initiative, there are many areas the Equality Unit can advise on, including accessibility, religion and belief, gender, disability and occupational health. They also offer a mediation service.

Initiatives may also consider completing an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) to help make sure any policies, procedures and practices that are related to the change activity do what they are intended to do and are inclusive for staff, students and visitors. More information and a link to download an EIA template is available on the Equality Policy Unit website: https://equality.leeds.ac.uk/equality-inclusion-framework/equality-impact-assessments/

To support the University's commitment to be a diverse, supportive and inclusive place to work, a training module is available for all staff. It can be accessed here: https://equality.leeds.ac.uk/equality-inclusion-module/
