Getting Started
How to get started: The Rich Picture
A great (and fun) way of getting started and gaining context is to draw a Rich Picture to represent all the stakeholders and their relationships which affect the current business situation.
Rich pictures provide a free-format approach however there are some commonly used symbols …
- Arrows – to show the direction of interaction from one place or person to another.
- Thought Bubbles – to show the needs, concerns and issues of those involved.
- People – stick people are fine – to show the different stakeholders involved.
- Crossed swords – to show potential competition or tension between different parties.
Hints & Tips
- Use a workshop to get your stakeholders involved in drawing the Rich Picture.
- Hand over the pens and get creative with illustrating all of the stakeholders, their relationships and thoughts for their team, faculty or service area.
- By involving your stakeholders in creating the Rich Picture we can build engagement and develop a common understanding of the influences on our organisation.
- Instead of pens we can also use magazine clippings, pictures and photographs for our imagery.
