Process Map [Level 1]

A Process Map provides us with a holistic representation of the dependencies between different processes. For example, a Staff Induction process would have a dependency upon a Recruitment Process.

What does this map tell us?

  1. Process B is dependent upon the output of processes A, D and F.
  2. Process C delivers the final output in this map and is dependent upon the output of process B as its input.
  3. Process D has no dependency, but its output provides part of the input to process B.
  4. Process A provides input to both process B and process E.
  5. All processes, with the exception of Process D have an up-stream dependency on Process A.

Hints & Tips

  • We would use the Organisational Context Model to identify which processes were undertaken by other teams within the organisation.
  • Practice your thinking: Which processes at home or at work are dependent upon other processes happening first?
